What is Heatbond seam tape?
Heatbond seam tape is a specialised carpet-seaming tape with hotmelt adhesive, developed to bond two carpet widths seamlessly together. A Heatbond carpet seamer heats the adhesive layer so that it fuses with the carpet backing.
The result is a smooth, strong and durable seam that remains attractive even in areas with heavy footfall.
When should you use it?
You use Heatbond seam tape wherever you want seams to close neatly and remain stable in the long term:
- In a stretched carpet installation (stretch-fit) with gripper rods
- In heavily used commercial projects such as hotel corridors, offices, conference rooms and passageways
- In double-stick installations and some direct-glue applications, as added reinforcement for the seams

How does it work?
Heatbond seam tape is an important part of the flooring build-up.
- Preparing a solid foundation
You first choose the right underlay, tailored to comfort, acoustics and any underfloor heating.
- Preparing the seam
Cut the carpet widths to size. The underlay is installed at a right angle to the carpet’s laying direction, ensuring the underlay seam does not align with the carpet seam. Then place the Heatbond seam tape under the carpet seam, with the adhesive side facing up.
- Bonding and closing the seam
Using the Heatbond carpet seamer, you melt the adhesive layer, bring the carpet widths together immediately and press the seam firmly. Once cooled, a smooth, strong seam remains.
This creates a carpet installation with neat, seamless joints that look refined and remain reliable even under intensive daily use.
